Environmental Litigation and
Enforcement
At Barg Coffin
Lewis & Trapp, LLP,
our lawyers have been involved in major environmental litigation and
enforcement actions for nearly 30 years. We represent clients in
litigation brought by local, state and federal government agencies,
and by citizen groups. We have successfully litigated many cost
recovery lawsuits on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants, and
we are currently involved in both the counseling and litigation
aspects of a number of these actions in California as well as other
states. We also have defended some of the largest and most complex
toxic tort cases in California.
Our recent matters
include:
-
Representing
companies in civil penalty actions brought under federal air,
water, pesticide, chemical and hazardous waste statutes by the
United States Department of Justice on behalf of EPA
-
Representing
companies in state and federal Superfund actions brought under
CERCLA by EPA and state agencies
-
Representing
large oil and other companies in defense of civil penalty
“citizen suits” brought by national environmental organizations
and alleging non-compliance with permit conditions
